The Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime (OSETC) attended the 2017 National Workshop on Counterfeiting, Piracy, and Border Measures which was held on 17 November 2017 at Bonifacio Hall, Shangri-La Hotel, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Alyanna Joy S. Jaucian and Janet Mangibin, Desk Officers, attended for OSETC.


The workshop was attended by representatives from various agencies of the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR) and the private sector.



During the morning session, a panel discussion was held regarding the contribution of government agencies to IPR enforcement at the national level. IO2 Dominic Garcia represented for the Bureau of Customs (BOC); PSUPT Raymund Liguden for the Philippine National Police (CIDG-AFCCU); Atty. Oliver Limbo for the IPOPHL; and Atty. Terrence Agustin for the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).


Representatives from the private sector also presented about the impact of counterfeiting on industry and consumers. Mr. Joshua Co, Deutsche Motorgerate Inc., Quezon City presented for STIHL; Ms. Winfrey Yim, Director, Brand Protection, Asia Pacific, Hong Kong for Michael Kors; and Mr. Tetsuya Ikeda for Pfizer Global Security. The need to intensify information awareness was highlighted considering that almost all of our personal necessities are being counterfeited and it is even more alarming due to fake vitamins and medicines circulating in the market.


The last part of the program was an interactive display participated in by different stakeholders in order to increase awareness as well as impart knowledge on how to identify and distinguish original from counterfeit products.
