The Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime (OSETC), attended the seminar regarding Microsoft Product Identification held at IPOPHL Multi-purpose Hall, Taguig City on May 15, 2017, attended by Ms. Janet Mangibin and Ms. Alyanna Joy Jaucian, Desk Officers of the OSETC along with the following agencies:


           a.      Bureau of Customs (BOC);

      b.     Department of Justice (DOJ); 

      c.      Department of Trade and Industry-Fair Trade and Enforcement    Bureau (DTI-FTEB);

      d.     Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL);

      e.      Optical Media Board (OMB);

      f.       Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG);

      g.      Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection  Group (PNP-CIDG); and

            h.     Philippine National Police - Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (PNP-DIDM).



Deputy Director General Allan B. Gepty of IPOPHL delivered his welcome remarks. He emphasized that the biggest challenge in the protection of intellectual property rights are the mindset of the people towards counterfeit products and the new trends of cybercrimes. 

Ms. Prep Palacios of Microsoft Philippines stated that mainly the challenges of the Microsoft Philippines are the new trends of counterfeiting and internet piracy and difficulty of tracing cyber criminals. She stated that in order to prevent those kinds of challenges they are doing online site awareness,partnership with online auction sites and mystery shopping (operational visit to the vendors).  Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of cooperation between private and public sectors in preventing and combatting counterfeiting and piracy in the country.
