OSETC ATTENDS THE 3rd INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime (OSETC) attended the 3rd International Dialogue on Human Trafficking hosted by Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) at New World Hotel, Makati City on September 14, 2017. Ms. Janet Mangibin and Ms. Alyanna Joy Jaucian, Desk Officers represented the OSETC. Public and private sectors, the academe, relevant government agencies, and members of the diplomatic corps were also present in the gathering.
Secretary of Justice Vitaliano N. Aguirre II delivered the keynote message. He strongly emphasized that humans should be treated equally. He highlighted that Human Trafficking happens when children, women and men are treated as goods. He also said that we are on the right track in fighting human trafficking considering that on the Trafficking in Persons Report for 2017 done by United States of America, the Philippines was placed in rank Tier 1 for two consecutive years. To end, he emphasized that collective efforts should be done in order to end human exploitation.
The main highlight of the event was the panel discussion which focused on three (3) topics, namely: a.) Seafarers and Fishers; b.) Domestic and Tourist Workers; and c.) Online Sexual Exploitation of Children.
